As lunch was drawing to a close an auction was held with Executive Chef Adam D’Sylva donating himself for an in-home dinner for 10 with wine included. A spirited auction took place. As the bid amount grew the number of bidders began to thin until just two were left. The hammer bid was an incredible $5000!!
A sincere thank you to Mykal Bartholomew and the whole Tonka team for wonderful service and amazing food and wine, but most of all Adam D’Sylva for your incredible donation! Only 1% of restaurants achieve Good Food hats, so our lucky bidders have won an unforgettable experience with one of Australia’s best chefs.
Congratulations to Michael and Robbie for not only raising a staggering $9,500 for the Lilyroo Fund, but providing a positive and memorable experience for all who attended.
The name, Tonka, pays homage to the building which was the former home of the iconic Melbourne nightclub, Honky Tonks. The blue city of Jodhpur inspired Tonka’s aesthetic concept with splashes of Jaipur’s pink. Art adorned ceilings are the hero of the space, these installations by Melbourne artist Naomi Troski capture the design brief: ‘the magic of India.’
Tonka embraces two quintessential Melbourne perspectives. Firstly, its famous laneway culture which informs the casual Tonka Bar where cocktails and tastes form the Tandoor are offered in a relaxed non-reservation area. The second aspect begins with a walk through the ‘kitchen dry store,’ which leads to the dining room, Tonka. Book a table and enjoy the bright, open room with sweeping views of the Yarra River, MCG and Arts Precinct.
Adam D’Sylva and Mykal and Kate Bartholomew have created their new Melbourne home and are thrilled to welcome you to their Indian dream.
